The idler
Did nothing yesterday. Nothing. Even the front door stayed locked from Saturday bedtime. Just sat around reading, chatting, eating and watching 1) On The Beach, excellent film of Nevil Shute novel about post-nuclear apocalypse; 2) The Long Way Down, Ewan McGegor and Charlie Boorman (less likable of the two) on motorbike trip from John O'Groats to South Africa; 3) Abigail's Party, now 30 years old. I've never managed to get to the end of it so excrutiating is the mental torment and have no idea how it finishes. I kind of hope the Alison Steadman character, Beverly, gets murdered by the others, or - better - that they all murder each other. The Office and to a lesser extent Fawlty Towers provoke the same reaction. I cannot bear to watch anything that so vividly portrays insanity, cruelty, delusion and pettiness.
